Dear Friends of Wilmington Catholic Radio,

We are very fortunate to have a radio station that we can call our own. Not only is it the only Catholic radio station in North Carolina but we are the only religion, out of dozens in Wilmington, that has a station dedicated specifically to it's own beliefs .This station was built so you, your family and friends here in the Wilmington area could learn more about the Catholic faith and receive the support we need to confirm our beliefs.

We are pleased by the many notes of thanks and encouragement that we receive from our listeners. The station is bearing many fruits including one new lay apostalate started by an individual who came back to the Church partially due to the influence of WBPL-LP.

As of July 19th, the station has been broadcasting for three years. It is amazing that there are still Catholics in our area that don't know we exist even though we have been listed in most Sunday bulletins at various times. In an effort to get the word out, this year we did a direct mailing to all parishioners listed in the pictorials for Immaculate Conception and St. Mary Church. We are planning to do the same with St. Stanislaus. Sometime in September or October we plan to advertise on the front page of the Star News so we can reach our non-Catholic brothers and sisters although some of them have already discovered us just by scanning the radio dial. If you can, spread the word yourself and if anyone would like a bumper sticker, contact us and we will get one to you.

This past July was the premier broadcast of the locally produced show "Carolina Catholic." We thank the producers of the show for having the insight and taking the time to provide us with a local show for the station. The show right now highlights different individuals from our area. It will be interesting to see how the show may evolve in the future. A new show will be broadcast the first two weekends of each month at 11 AM on Saturday and 6 PM on Sunday.

Since we are a low power station, only 100 watts, some of you may experience reception problems. We have identified at least two stations that broadcast on 92.5 FM, one not to far from Raleigh and another near Charleston, SC, whose broadcast power is 100,000 watts and 56,000 watts respectively. Under certain atmospheric conditions, their broadcast reaches the Wilmington area and spills over to 92.7 FM. This happens most often in the morning but usually clears up by 8 or 9 AM. At times it may also happen in the evening. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do to prevent this except to keep it in prayer.

Anytime you have a question about the station feel free to contact us by phone, letter or e-mail. Since the station operates unmanned most of the time, you may want to call and let us know if the station goes completely off the air, since we don't monitor it 24 hours a day.

Recently we had a private meeting, in regard to the radio station, with the Bishop of Raleigh, Most Reverend Michael Burbidge. He thanked us for our efforts and later wrote us a letter of his support for the station. In it he wrote, "The programs broadcast on your station, through Relevant Radio Network, provide Catholics and, more importantly, those who have fallen away from our faith, an opportunity to have access to information about their faith and faith in action on a daily basis. It also provides non-Catholics an opportunity to learn about our Catholic faith, which is important especially in an area where the Catholic community is growing."

This is the only time this year that we will be asking for your financial support to keep WBPL-LP on a sound footing. Once again we will be participating in the Bruce Cavenaugh Charity Raffle. As a thank you, for every $20.00 donated to Wilmington Catholic Radio from now until October 7, 2007, we will send you a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of four 2008 Suzukis. For example if you donate $ 100.00 you will receive 5 raffle tickets. The drawing will be televised live on WECT and WWAY on October 25, 2007. Please note that the raffle is completely funded by Bruce Cavenaugh's Super Store, Auto Mart and Auto Palace and 100% of your donation will go to support Wilmington Catholic Radio.

Thanks in advance for your generosity and may Our Lord's blessings be upon you and your family,

William Hamilton

St. Michael the Archangel

Wilmington Catholic Radio is an apostolate serving the Catholic Church and consistently operating in accord with the principles and truths of the Catholic Faith as expressed in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the living Magisterium of the Church. Our goal is to always provide the community with solid Catholic teaching so Catholics can have an easy way to learn more about their faith, and for non-Catholics to learn what the Church really teaches. This is our mission.
