Chatting with Sophia Institute Press about the sanctuary light, the road to Bethlehem, and Saintifi

We focus on exciting projects from Sophia Institute Press. We chat with children's book author, Susan Joy Bellavance, about her newest book, This Little Light of Thine. And we then speak to Rebecca Wildsmith, the daughter of a children's book author, Brian Wildsmith, about his book, The Road to Bethlehem. Finally, we speak to the publisher of Sophia Institute Press, Charlie McKinney, about its newest offering, an app called Saintifi. Susan's book shines a light on the Eucharist for children, while Rebecca shows us the love even animals have for Our Blessed Mother. Finally, Charlie introduces us to an app that gives us access to hundreds of Sophia's books for less than the cost of a single book on the brand new app, Saintifi.

Catholic Women and Modern Fashion

We talk to Catholic author, Catherine Rose, about her book, A Return to Beauty: Ancient Catholic Wisdom and Modern Fashion. In this book, Catherine explains how when in Eucharistic Adoration in 2011, she saw a vision of a crowd of people with a woman wearing a lovely dress, and she heard these words: "You go and accomplish this." Because of her deep love of Jesus, she sought to do His will, and thus, she began to wear dresses every day; this began her 13 year journey to do God's will and share her story talking to women about being beautiful for God. Her book highlights the opportunity of every woman to dress in a lovely way, through which she can evangelize culture, elevate her vocation, and transform her interior sense of self.

A Spiritual Daugher talks about St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina

We chat with Mary O'Regan, the author of Padre Pio and You. This beautiful book brings the reader the life of this saint in a very detailed but personal way by the author, who met him mystically as a teenager in 1998 when she was 14, and he transformed her life. She beautifully describes the miracles that happened to him (the stigmata, the transverberation of his heart, and his ability to bilocate) and the miracles he prayed for to help others (healings & conversions). Mary spent many years collecting his pearls of wisdom in order to guide us through Padre Pio to Jesus, who loved His friar so intensely and uniquely. Beneath all of the details of his saintly life laid out in this book, we find ourselves longing for our own relationship with Padre Pio. Listen to the Show

Sophia Institute Press author, Anthony DeStefano, on Miracles

We talk to Anthony DeStefano about his newest book, The Miracle Book: A Simple Guide to Asking for the Impossible. So many of us pray for miracles for our families and friends, but we don't know how to best prepare ourselves to ask for a miracle. Anthony shows us a powerful new approach to praying for miracles to give us the best possible chance of having our prayers answered. This approach also shows us how to persevere in trials and provides practical, theologically sound guidance based on seven Bible-based pairs of ideas called "miracle paradoxes." While there is no guarantee that a miracle will happen, we can learn from the teachings of the Catholic faith how to embrace our faith and implement these Biblical teachings in our prayer life.

Pope Leo XIV

About Pope Leo XIV from EWTN's Vice President, Dr. Matthew Bunson in his book, Leo XIV: Portrait of the First American Pope

We get the incredible opportunity to chat about the first biography in English on our new pope called Leo XIV: Portrait of the First American Pope! Written in the two weeks between Pope Leo's election on May 8th and its publication, this amazingly detailed biography is a joy to read and contains so much information about the man just elected our 267th pontiff. In this book that Dr. Bunson calls a "portrait," we learn about the pope's childhood in the suburb of Chicago, his beautiful family and its history, his lifelong love of the priesthood, his years in Rome and Peru, and his Augustinian spirituality. From stories of him riding donkeys or horses to meet with his flock, to the reasons he took the name, Leo, to the meaning of his beautiful Papal Motto, In Illo unum uno (In the One, we are one), this book gives us a compelling narrative of Pope Leo's life, beliefs, and journey to the papacy.  Dr. Bunson is well-known as a papal authority having written award winning books on the papacy, the history of our Church, and the saints.

Catholic author, Kevin Wells, about his newest book, Coached by the Curé: Lessons in Shepherding with St. John Vianney

We chat with Kevin Wells who writes as the "tongue of St. John Vianney," the patron saint of parish priests, in his book, Coached by the Curé: Lessons in Shepherding with St. John Vianney. In this book, the Curé urges both priests and parents to follow his example to bring lost souls back from modern ideologies, indifference, and confusion. This book serves as a powerful guide for those who are eager to help others return to the light and be willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of even a single soul. Saint John Vianney, as pastor, sacrificed his life for sinners with his humility, fortitude to overcome Satan’s relentless assaults, Eucharistic love, devotion to Mary, courage, prayer, and commitment to penance. In Kevin's book, we are guided to do the same as parents and grandparents.

The Contemplative Life

with Sister Gabriela of the Carmel of Mary Immaculate and St. Mary Magdalen

I chatted with Sister Gabriela of the Incarnation whom I met in April at the Carmelite Monastery in Flemington, NJ. These Discalced Carmelite Nuns are a community of cloistered, contemplative religious under solemn vows. They express their call to follow Our Lord ever more closely in silence and solitude. Prayer is the center of this life. Her order wears the full habit as a sign of poverty and consecration to God. The lifestyle is simple and austere, but not excessively so, as the sisters enjoy two daily hours of recreation. The sisters have a pro-life ministry, Contemplatives for Life, and they operate an online gift shop.

AEHT is a collaborative, faith-based national network that offers education, supports access to survivor services, and engages in advocacy to eradicate this crime. Christine will speak about one of the most often ignored aspects of human trafficking that impacts us all directly: labor trafficking. As per the Department of State, it is estimated that child slave labor is used to produce 204 goods that Americans consume including coffee and chocolate, and children are also used to harvest critical minerals like cobalt, copper, lithium, manganese, tantalum, tin, tungsten, and zinc, the majority of which are used to run our cell phones, tablets, and computers.

Father wears many hats in addition to being a pastor; he is a Marian theologian, author, columnist, and podcast host. In his current podcast, he works with TAN Books who is releasing a new leatherette edition of the Dolorous Passion with gilded pages to withstand long, devoted use to inspire Catholics in their spiritual journey to Heaven. The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is a singular book that leaves a lasting impression of the terrible agony of Our Lord, of His infinite love for us that motivated His suffering, and how His passion and death were brought on by our sins. What are the take-aways for today's Catholics on Blessed Anne Catherine's Emmerich's book? His mom, Joni Seith, wrote her newest book, Pain of Grace: Living and Suffering with Dignity. Her book addresses her conversion story from cultural Judaism to Catholicism when she was young and then how her body completely fell apart and how God used the next 20+ years of her life to teach her about suffering and His love for us all.

The president of the Catholic League, Bill Donohue

Judi and Tara speak to Dr. Bill Donohue, a sociologist, about his newest book, War on Virtue: How the Ruling Class is Killing the American Dream. In this show, Bill explains how the ruling class is systematically undermining the virtues of self-discipline, perseverance, and personal responsibility that have helped build Western civilization while producing a “moral holocaust” that rejects the idea of personal sin and replaces it with social injustice. Bill then offers a commonsense solution to restoring the virtues in the workplace and the family while defending universal morality.

North Carolina's Care for Women, Children, & Families Act (SB20)

Carolina Catholic talks about North Carolina's Senate Bill 20 or the Care for Women, Children, and Families Act that will become law on July 1, 2023, which restricts the majority of abortions after 12 weeks. North Carolina had a law that allowed abortions up to 20 weeks, but after the SCOTUS' decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, the issue of abortion regulation was returned to the states, and our legislature passed this law to limit abortions to 12 weeks while providing millions to families to assist women with childcare, daycare, paid family leave, etc. Tara Lewis and I will discuss both the Dobbs' decision and SB20 with the state president of North Carolina Right to Life, Dr. Bill Pincus.

How the Eucharist can save our Civilization

Tara Lewis and I chat with Dr. Jared Staudt about his book, How the Eucharist Can Save Civilization. In this show, we will learn how the Blessed Sacrament has more power than any medicine to heal the body and soul, more strength than any army to defeat our foes, and more grace to transform our civilization by first transforming us. Only the Holy Eucharist, which built the great culture of Christendom, can both renew and save our secular culture by infusing it with faith, beauty, community, and charity.

Carolina Catholic and friends react to the Dobbs' decision which overturned Roe v. Wade

For our second August show, Judi Paparozzi and Tara Lewis talk to local pro-lifers, including the Knights of Columbus, about how we as Catholics should react to the Dobbs' decision, now that it has been released reversing Roe v. Wade, with the realization that many states around NC will be abortion free; this concerns many of us who fight for the rights of the unborn, as we may soon see an increase in the number of women coming from other states to have abortions here in Wilmington. We as Catholics believe we must work to help women in crisis pregnancies including helping them long after the baby is born, and it is now more important than ever to vote pro-life fighting for the rights of all children, born and unborn, and assisting moms in crisis pregnancies. Catholics must show the world that we love both the mom and the child.

Nikki Kingsley

What is the Truth?

This was the burning question that led Nikki  Kingsley  on her journey from Islam to Christianity.

Nikki’s  remarkable  story  began  in  Pakistan  where  she  was  born  in  a Muslim family. She arrived in America at the age of thirty with her two young children, seeking freedom from an arranged marriage, and discovered the promise found in the dream called America.

Nikki’s life as a Muslim went through a dramatic turn when she had an extraordinary  series  of  mystical  experiences.  These  events  prompted her to question and reconsider the Muslim faith that she had practiced for 40 years.

Ultimately, this led Nikki to The Truth in the person of Jesus Christ.

A  compelling  speaker,  Nikki  now  shares  her  life-changing  story  of faith and hope––a story of a journey from the culture, faith, and traditions of the East to the freedom of the West.

Nikki  Kingsley’s  dynamic  account  of  her  faith  journey into Light is detailed in her book, Thirst for Truth: From Mohammad to Jesus.

Drawing on centuries of Catholic wisdom from Scripture and the saints especially St. Joseph, Hall provides the tools for men to be more virtuous and to be men of God. This book is not for the weak-hearted but will strike every man with the sharpness of iron—he who has ears to hear will receive strength herein. He writes that world is in desperate need of such men. He provides the cure: traditional Catholic masculinity.

Mankowski, S.J., and also Bill Donohue, President of the Catholic League on his book, The Truth about Clergy Sexual Abuse: Clarifying the Facts and the Causes. George Weigel was close friends with Jesuit Father Paul Mankowski who was a prodigious writer whose mission in life was to prod the Jesuits into once more being the special forces of faith. Bill Donohue, who has his PhD on Sociology, used his social science background to full investigate the clergy sex abuse scandal documenting all sides of the story that impacted our Church so deeply.

Catholic author, Charles Fraune

My guest is an old friend to many in Wilmington, Charles Fraune. Charles is married with three children (and one on the way), and he is a Catholic author with several books to his credit. We will talk about his current book, Slaying Dragons: Prepare for Battle: Applying the Wisdom of Exorcists to your Spiritual Warfare, which is a workbook that accompanies his 2019 book, Slaying Dragons. This workbook teaches the reader how to apply the wisdom of exorcists to our own spiritual battles by learning how to live a holy life, the efficacy of grace and the sacraments, how to avoid the occult, and how to access the great treasury of prayers and devotions offered by our Catholic Church.
