Carolina Catholic chats with Catholic author, Kevin Wells, about his newest book, Coached by the Curè: Lessons in Shepherding with St. John Vianney
For our second show in June, we chat with Kevin Wells who writes as the "tongue of St. John Vianney," the patron saint of parish priests, in his book, Coached by the Curè. In this book, the Curè urges both priests and parents to follow the example of his example to bring lost souls back from modern ideologies, indifference, and confusion. This book serves as a powerful guide for those who are eager to help others return to the light and be willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of even a single soul. Saint John Vianney, as pastor, sacrificed his life for sinners with his humility, fortitude to overcome Satan’s relentless assaults, Eucharistic love, devotion to Mary, courage, prayer, and commitment to penance. In Kevin's book, we are guided to do the same as parents and grandparents.
This show will air on Wilmington Catholic Radio's three stations, 91.7 FM, 93.1 FM, and 103.1 FM on Saturdays at 11 am and Sundays at 6 pm on the third and fourth weekends of June. You can listen on-line live by clicking on the Listen Now tab. Or, listen 24/7 by going to the Carolina Catholic tab and clicking on the show page.
June's Teaching Moment
The Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel began with Pope Leo XIII in 1886, when he had a vision after Mass of the great harm Satan would do to the Church and world in the 20th century. The pope composed the prayer and added it to be said after Low Mass. Despite a change in 1964, Pope St. John Paul II, in his Regina Coeli address in 1994, recommended this prayer to fight evil in the world.
He said, “Although this prayer is no longer recited at the end of Mass, I ask everyone not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle against the forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world.”
Many dioceses have resumed saying it after low Masses, but we should all recite this beautiful prayer often:
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Carolina Catholic learns about mini miracles at Lourdes and about St. Maria Goretti from two Sophia Institute Press authors
For our first show in June, we chat with author, Marlene Watkins, who experienced a mini miracle in Lourdes in 2000. Since then, she founded an organization called Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitality North American Volunteers whose volunteers assist the staff at Lourdes. Marleen has led over 200 pilgrimages with 7,000 volunteers to Lourdes. In the second half of the show, I talk to the spokesperson for Sophia Institute, Michael Lichens, about a recently republished book called, I Killed Maria Goretti: The Life and Repentance of Alessandro Serenelli (previously called, The Penitent) by Pietro di Donato. In this historical fiction, Pietro writes about the life and martyrdom of St. Maria Goretti, who was killed by Alessandro Serenelli while a child (11). We also learn about his conversion while in prison for his crime and how St. Maria and the Goretti Family all forgave him for committing this terrible crime. He spent his last many years as a lay brother in a convent of Franciscan Capuchin friars in Macerata, Italy.
This show will air on Wilmington Catholic Radio's three stations, 91.7 FM, 93.1 FM, and 103.1 FM on Saturdays at 11 am and Sundays at 6 pm on the first two weekends of June. Carolina Catholic learns about the contemplative life with Sister Gabriela of the Carmel of Mary Immaculate and St. Mary Magdalen in Flemington, NJ
For our second show in May, I chat with Sister Gabriela of the Incarnation whom I met in April at the Carmelite Monastery in Flemington, NJ. These Discalced Carmelite Nuns are a community of cloistered, contemplative religious under solemn vows. They express their call to follow Our Lord ever more closely in silence and solitude. Prayer is the center of this life. Her order wears the full habit as a sign of poverty and consecration to God. The lifestyle is simple and austere, but not excessively so, as the sisters enjoy two daily hours of recreation. The sisters have a pro-life ministry, Contemplatives for Life, and they operate an online gift shop.
This show will air on Wilmington Catholic Radio's three stations, 91.7 FM, 93.1 FM, and 103.1 FM on Saturdays at 11 am and Sundays at 6 pm on the third and fourth weekends of May.
